  • The General: Rejected by the Confederate army, and taken for a coward by his beloved, young Johnny Gray is given a chance to redeem himself when he wages a one-man war against Yankee spies who have stolen his locomotive
  • The kid: Chaplin's infamous Tramp rescues an abandoned baby and raises him to become his inseparable sidekick. As he grows older, the child and the Tramp work together to survive until one day the doctor discovers the young boy is not the Tramp's son and welfare services attempt to take him away
  • Long John Silver's return to Treasure Island: When Long John Silver learns that his rival Mendoza has captured a ship carrying his young friend Jim Hawkins, he hatches a rescue plan that includes returning to Treasure Island for more treasure
  • The scarlet letter: At the end of the 17th century a headstrong, impoverished young society woman arrives in Boston where she weds an aging doctor. When she is swept into a tempestuous affair with the local Reverend, she ends up bearing a child out of wedlock. Because of her misdeed, she is forced to wear a scarlet letter "A" to bear her shame
